The next Bolton Symphony Orchestra concert, ‘A Distant Home’, features music by two well-known composers, Dvorak and Tchaikovsky, and the lesser-known Florence Price. Our leader of the orchestra, Anita Levy will be playing the solo violin part in Dvorak’s Violin Concerto, and the concert will culminate with Tchaikovsky’s deeply emotional 4th Symphony. We are also pleased to be featuring Ethiopia’s Shadow in America by Florence Price. Price was a 19th century American composer of African heritage whose music is both steeped in the Western European tradition and also combines influences from the music she knew whilst growing up in the racially segregated states of America in the early 20th century.
