The Marco Players will perform Second from Last in the Sack Race at The Roundhouse in Halliwell from February 25 to 28, marking their first show at the venue.
Adapted from the novel by David Nobbs, the play is described as a ‘warm, witty, and poignant coming-of-age tale’.
It follows Henry Pratt, an underdog born into poverty during wartime, as he navigates his journey into adulthood with humour and determination.
Peter Haslam, director of the production, said: “Performing at a new venue is always exciting, and The Roundhouse is a fantastic space.
“We’re really looking forward to welcoming local audiences and sharing this story with the Halliwell community.”
Ben Latham will take on the lead role of Henry Pratt, depicting him from childhood through to adulthood.
The cast features six actors who together bring 36 different characters to life.
Vicki Wilson, who returns to The Marco Players following her debut as Lady Merton in Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime, said she is enjoying the contrast.
Ms Wilson said: “The characters couldn’t be more different.”
The adult cast take on a mix of roles, playing not only adults but also children, a device that adds to the play’s humour while vividly bringing Nobbs’ memories of Yorkshire boyhood to life.
The production continues The Marco Players’ long tradition of bringing theatre to the stage.
It also marks an important milestone for the group as they settle into their new home.
