Two BBC legends to star in Sister Act the Musical in Manchester

The award-winning show will take to the stage at Manchester’s Palace Theatre from November 9 to 27, 2027, as part of a new UK and Ireland tour.

The cast will feature Strictly Come Dancing star Craig Revel Horwood as Mother Superior, ChuckleVision legend Paul Chuckle as Monsignor O’Hara, and West End performer Zoe Birkett as Deloris Van Cartier.

The production follows the story of disco diva Deloris, who is placed in protective custody in a convent after witnessing a murder.

Encouraged to help the struggling choir, she inspires her fellow sisters to find their voices while rediscovering her own.

The musical features original music by Tony and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and a book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner with additional material by Douglas Carter Beane.

Direction is by Bill Buckhurst, choreography by Alistair David, set and costume design by Morgan Large, lighting design by Tim Mitchell, sound design by Tom Marshall, and musical supervision by Stephen Brooker.

Mr Revel Horwood is best known as the longest-serving judge on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing, having appeared on all 24 series.

He has previously starred as The Wicked Witch of the West in the UK tour of The Wizard of Oz and as Miss Hannigan in Annie, both in the West End and on tour.

He also directed and choreographed the 2016/17 tour of Sister Act The Musical.

Paul Chuckle, best known as one half of The Chuckle Brothers and ChuckleVision on the BBC, was awarded an MBE in the 2026 New Year Honours.

He has appeared in numerous pantomimes and will star later this year as Mr Boo in the National Theatre’s production of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice.

Zoe Birkett’s West End credits include the title role in Tina: The Tina Turner Musical and Arabia in Moulin Rouge the Musical, for which she won a BroadwayWorld award.

At just 16, Ms Birkett was the highest-placed female contestant in the first series of ITV’s Pop Idol.

She recently performed as a guest vocalist on Take That’s Circus Live Stadium Tour.

Further casting to be announced.
