Between Mouthfuls and Gosforth’s Fete will be performed as to opposed to a single production by St Vincent’s Dramatics Society.
Secretary Toni Maloney said: “We are still consolidating a recent growth in numbers, which has been much needed for the society.
“We didn’t want to lose focus over the summer last year, so we ran a few workshops, both technical and on acting. Although small, these were well attended, bringing more new faces into the society. But the question was, what do we do with them next?
“We had originally planned to do a single production in 2024, and expected to do it in May. However, our chairman suggested that we give our newer members the opportunity to tread the boards with us for the first time in two shorter works.”
The society is therefore presenting two of the acts from ‘Confusions’ by Alan Ayckbourn, with the audience sitting at tables, and with light refreshments provided at the interval. The audience will also have the opportunity to bring their own drinks, making the evening a more social, relaxed event for their new actors’ first time on the stage.
“Just to clarify, not all the actors are new to the stage, some are from other societies and just haven’t acted with us before,” said Toni, “We are so fortunate to be in the Greater Manchester’s Town of Culture. There are a lot of very talented people in the area.”
Toni added: “We have also required some assistance from other local societies for additional sound and lighting equipment, for which we are very grateful.
“We never forget how important the front of house and support roles are too, including publicity and so much more – we have an amazing group of people, both new and existing members. We are all looking forward to welcoming our audiences in just a few days from now.”
‘Between Mouthfuls’, is set in a restaurant. Two couples arrive to dine at the restaurant, where their waiter cannot help but overhear their conversations as the evening goes on.
There will be an extended interval, when refreshments will be served, including a pasty and hot drinks.
Then audiences find themselves in farmer Swales’s field for ‘Gosforth’s Fête’, where the village summer fundraiser for a new village hall becomes quite eventful.
The peformances can be enjoyed from Thursday, May 30 to Saturday, June1.
